ATAF, in partnership with the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), is
organising the 1st ATAF’s Experts Meeting on Digitalisation and ICT
in Tax Administration to take place in South Africa from 6 to 8 November
2019.
As African economies become increasingly digitalised, countries are
increasingly concerned about the impacts on the tax systems and ensuing tax
challenges. The digitalisation of the global economy is transforming how
business is conducted and how value is created. This drastic transformation is
as applicable to African economies as other economies and may be even more
relevant for Africa as these economies may leapfrog some of the changes that
are taking place in more mature economies. Africa must recognize the pace of
this process and seize the opportunity to develop unique African approaches
using technology in new and imaginative ways.
The objective of
the 1st ATAF’s Experts Meeting is to assess the state of the
Information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure required to
support tax administration systems in the regions, the challenges (including
cost, resources, IT software and applications) and innovative solutions
implemented to, among others, identify, widen and monitor the tax base,
increase revenue collection, facilitate voluntary tax compliance, gather and
analyze valuable data, and manage risks. The Meeting will also aim at the
discussing the framework of a Model Domestic Tax ICT system for Africa.
