Tax Administration & Policy Developments in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Africa
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread globally, resulting in a global pandemic declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. The first case in Africa was traced in Egypt on 14 February 2020. COVID-19 has since brought serious challenges to global economies and consequently tax revenue has remained suppressed due to this pandemic. Governments around the globe have taken a series of tax-relief and other non-tax relief measures to support their taxpayers and their wider economies.
