Efficient Implementation and Maintenance of ICT Tax Systems in Africa: Compilation of Good Practice, Success Stories, and Lessons Learnt
Since its inception in 2009, the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) has focused on enhancing the capacity of its members in tax administration through shared knowledge and experiences.
After a series of information and communications technology (ICT) projects carried out by African tax administrations, vast knowledge has been accumulated on their implementation regarding needs analysis, technology, costs, outcomes, and lessons learned to inform future developments. By now, African countries have (to a certain degree) learned what to do and what not to do regarding ICT projects. Within their circles, tax administrators have shared their successes and failures, as peers. The most formal and coordinated platform to share such knowledge has been through benchmark visits and conferences within Africa and occasionally, in international conferences outside Africa.
